PHOTO #56: Fall Outfit Number…I Don’t Remember

Here’s what I wore today. The jacket is new, I was so excited to finally wear it. It was a sale piece from Urban Outfitters. The moment I saw it I wanted it. The moment I put it on there was no way I was putting it down. It fit perfectly, and looked awesome on. Kinda preppy with a messy vibe, I guess. Other than the jacket you have seen everything else on me before. The necklace was not clear the last time I wore it, so now you can see it for real…sort of. It’s one of my pieces, made of clay.

I missed seeing a famous person at work…twice. Michael Keaton (Batman, Beetlejuice) came in yesterday, on my day off! And then again this morning. 😦 Oh well. Hopefully when we have Lincoln exclusively (yea, that’s right) some famous people that live in Toronto will come to see it.

I have barely done anymore of my Halloween costume…I was working on my sisters for her. Yea, so now I’ve done some for my brother AND my sister. I’m still pretty sure it will only take me a short time to do mine, so I’m not worried. My friend also gave me some fake eyelashes that are going to look great, they are so long it’s insane. Not sure I’ll be able to open my eyes with them on…Anyways I have to get up at a decent hour if I want to work on this thing. Consider this me going to bed early. Even though it’s 3am…

PHOTO #55: Make-up Trial

So, todays photo was going to be of my finished dress, because I now have all the pieces I need to make it. But, then I got lazy. I realized that I hadn’t tried out the make-up that I was planning on using. Now, keep in mind I only half-assed this just to see how I would be working with it, and also, it looked a lot better in person than on camera. But, I loved the results. Now I am super excited to do the full thing on wednesday. The only thing left is the dress. It’s going to involve more work than I was hoping, if I want it to look good. And stay on…so I’ll have to work on that in the morning tomorrow and on wednesday. But I’m not worried. Yet…

This storm is getting pretty crazy out there. The full brunt of it hasn’t even hit yet, but the wind is getting pretty intense. And watching the News from New York, and along that coast, I’m pretty nervous. I know they said it won’t hit Canada to that effect, but I think it could still be pretty bad. And I have to go to work tomorrow…I just hope that most people stay at home and don’t want to pass the time waiting out the storm watching a movie…would they? Listening to that wind, hearing how strong it is, feeling the creak of the house. I just want to be curled up in a ball rocking back and forth plugging my ears yelling “LALALALAICAN’THEARYOU!”…until it passes.

Anyways…

A new season of Project Runway just started tonight. I freaking love that show. But, it’s the one where the normal hosts and judges aren’t in it. So, no Heidi Klum and her catch phrases, no Tim Gunn and his all around awesomeness. And of course it’s an All-Star round. Which means all the crazy characters that got kicked off in past seasons because I hated them are back. That’s right, secretly I’m the real judge of Project Runway. Now you know. No. But seriously, if I was, Christopher Palu would have won the last one. And Anthony Ryan would win this one. I love him, and he won the first challenge today, so…yay!

PHOTO #54: Lost & Found Haul

I got to do a clean up of the lost and found today. We have to dispose of anything that’s older than two months. Here are a few of the things I grabbed. The walkman is for a friend. She asked me to grab it for her if it hadn’t been claimed by the two month mark. Inside was Katy Perry’s new CD Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection. I got a pair of Prada sunglasses. Whether they are real or not is another question. I also grabbed a pair of Ray Ban Wayfarers, I don’t think they are real (I’ve gotten pretty good at recognizing the inconsistencies between real and fake Ray Bans). And a pair of Ray Ban Aviators, also probably fake. All in all, I think I got some pretty awesome stuff. And I am obsessed with sunglasses, so I am pretty happy.

Other than that, today was rainy and crappy, and my mood mirrored it. I wanted to just sleep all day, funny that I am now still up at three in the morning…I learned some new manager-y things at work, which was awesome. And I wore my favourite heels, navy blue and brown lace-up from H&M. I can’t walk in them, but I am really trying to teach myself to walk in heels, so I have to start somewhere right? I’m sure I look ridiculous walking in them…Though they are really comfortable, so I don’t know why I suck at walking. Ah well, I’ll keep trying anyways.

PHOTO #53: Halloween Awesome Fun Times

Today I threw an awesome Halloween Party at work. Even though I was working at the same time, I think it all came together pretty well. We had Pumpkin carving, a Pot-luck, a costume contest, and a movie. I got prizes for the winners of the pumpkin carving and costume contest. As you can see from this picture we are a bunch of slobs. We had chips , chocolate, candy, pop, cupcakes, someone made pudding, and rice cakes, some one even made chow mein.

After all the festivities I wanted to show a few movies in the theatres, but it turned out almost everyone wanted to see Shaun of the Dead, people who had voted for other films (there were about 15 other movies to choose from) agreed to go see that one. Though only a few of us actually stayed to watch the whole thing.

I have never really been the planner when it comes to parties, I tend to take the back-seat approach, so this was a new experience for me. It was hard. But I liked it. Thinking of prizes to give people, what tools we would need, finding things to serve food on. It wasn’t too hard to get supplies, we work in a place that deals with a lot of food. So it was easy to find plates, knives, forks, cups, those sorts of things. I wish I could plan more of them. It’s hard to find places to hold them, sometimes impossible.

Here’s to trying new things. Let’s hope I get more chances.

PHOTO #52: Nails

Here you go, just like I said I would. An update on my nails. The pen is a lot quicker than other methods I’ve tried  (Konad nail stamp, those curved stickers that help you paint a perfect curve…). But, they are a bit messier, it’s all free hand, and I’m not great getting the perfect line in there if you can tell. This isn’t the finished look though. I’m actually working on them as I type this. I evened out the curves a bit, and I am adding on a top coat, which is making the white a nice even colour. The only thing now, is I think they are getting excessively long. It’s half french tip half nail. It’s not like I’m going for the world record for long nails or something. So, starting…soonish I will probably cut them down a bit. That might help the breakage too, and give the two that are broken less time to catch back up!

Bought the lace to finish off my costume. Hooray for not leaving things until last minute! Now I just have to put it together…and wear it…The make-up it going to be the hardest part, I think. But, we’ll see. Sunday will be my Halloween costume DIY post I guess.

I have a Halloween Party tomorrow that I co-planned. It’s going to be super fun! Pumpkin carving contest, yummy food! Horror movies! I am super excited.

Not much else to say for today. I guess it’s just going to be a short one.

PHOTO #51: Work Work Work

Today was pretty boring. I thought I was meeting up with my sister to go fabric shopping for our costumes and I think she wants me to make her a dress or something. But, apparently I am still very tired and was getting my days mixed up. I really thought it was friday…Luckily my manager had already asked me if I could come in early. So, I didn’t go all the way downtown for nothing. While I was downtown I bought this QUO French Tip Nail Pen thing. I am getting lazier and lazier when it comes to doing my nails. And lately they look so bad, because my hair dye has also dyed my nails. So they are this dirty greenish tint. It’s gross. I figured I should try this. It’s supposed to make it easier. But, I have this feeling it’s not going to. Details on that tomorrow I guess.

My celebrity sighting of the day is Salman Rushdie and Deepa Metha. I read a Rushdie book in my grade nine english class, and I loved it. It was called Haroun and the Sea of Stories. I know that there is this whole thing with him and the Middle East, but I’m not really sure of the details. I just know he has written some pretty controversial stuff. Now, I didn’t necessarily see him…but he was in the vicinity of the theatre. He and Deepa Metha did a Q & A before her film Midnight’s Children. So, that was the excitement for the day.

Other than that…I accidentally went into overtime again…not by much this time…maybe an hour and a half. Oops…It’s hard to keep track of my hours…plus, it’s not my fault they ask me to come in all the time. I just never refuse.

P.S. I suppose I should explain the photo…This is what I wore at work for the day. The sheer blouse with the Lace collar is from a store called Penney’s. You can find it in the UK. Specifically, I got mine from Ireland. The sweater is an old thing from Reitman’s or something.

PHOTO #50: My 50th Post!!!!!

I was really hoping to have an awesome photo for my fiftieth. But alas, things didn’t go as planned today. I was expecting to have a nice relaxing day in the office, doing my normal thing, but a bit less because:

1. It’s a wednesday…nothing happens on wednesdays…

2. I have organized everything to make my day to day job easier…

Instead, I came in to find out that the only employee set to work on VIP *(I’ll explain VIP for those of you who don’t watch movies in Toronto) called in sick! There was no one else scheduled, and no one on any other position could work it. You have to be smart served and over 18 to serve alcohol. A big part of our VIP experience. So, guess who had to work it? That’s right. Me. Not only does VIP involve constant work, checking on things, serving people, cleaning things. But, I don’t have much experience on it. I have never worked in the evening, alone. I have never worked it during any sold out shows. So, Of course I said yes to working it. What was I supposed to do? I just inwardly started freaking out. It went alright though. Argo was sold out, but not many people wanted stuff, so I was lucky. Plus, I made $15 bucks in tips that I wouldn’t have if I hadn’t worked the shift! Woohoo.

*VIP is a small comfy theatre where we have staff do a waiter service and sell the guests food and drinks from their seats. It’s also licensed for alcoholic drinks!

The only other problem was that after the VIP shift was done, I had to do my original job. And that took longer than usual because I hadn’t been able to do any of it all day, so there was a mess of everyones stuff that had slowly been piling up all day. Plus since I hadn’t been dealing with it all day, when the money wasn’t matching up properly, I couldn’t explain where it was, because I had no clue what had gone on all day.

So, that’s why this picture is important. It’s nothing special, I had no time for a better photo. But, it represents what happened to me today. And I think that makes it important. I did something tonight that I am generally pretty scared of. And I jumped right in without complaining or trying to pass it off to someone else. And I did it well. Or at least as well as I could. So, that’s a big deal.

And of course I already failed yesterdays goal of posting on the actual day that I’m writing about. But, I am going to keep trying with that one…
