PHOTO #95: New Pants

PHOTO #95: New Pants

I haven’t been shopping in a while, so when I was in the mall yesterday to pierce my ear I couldn’t resist doing a bit. I had planned on limiting myself to buying work pants, and shoes. But I couldn’t find anything that was right. And, I couldn’t stop myself from buying these. They are grey acid-wash jeans from H&M, $24.95. The acid-wash is not too extreme which is good, because I can wear them more freely. What I mean is if the design on the pants was more noticeable it limits what you can wear it with. And I have also wanted jeans like this for a seriously long time. Plus, I have this problem when I go shopping, where I only buy tops and no bottoms. So, this I will happily add to my pants collection.

I didn’t end up watching You’ve Got Mail yesterday. I fell asleep at 8pm. I know crazy…but I woke up at 3am and couldn’t get back to sleep. 😦 I finally did around 7:30am after watching numerous videos of The X Factor performances…So anyways, I am loading the movie now and am finally going to watch it. I saw it years ago, when I was quite young, and I don’t remember much about it at all. Which I am sort of happy about. It means I can enjoy it more that I would, if I remembered what happens in it.

Celebrity Sighting: Bruce Croxon. He’s one of the Dragons, on Drangons’ Den. Though it was a little tough to tell it was him. He seemed to be incognito. His hair was all messy and disheveled. And he looked like just a plain regular guy. Instead of a multi-millionaire, or whatever amount of money he has…either way I thought I’d share that sighting. At least I think it was him. They all sort of look the same…it really could have been one of the other ones.

PHOTO #89: My New Cool Vest

PHOTO #89: My New Cool Vest

This is the new vest I got today! I’m super excited about it, it’s really awesome. There’s not much else I can say about it. The brand name on it is Vero Moda…

So today we had a big celebrity come into the theatre: Carly Rae Jepsen! I’m not a fan of her recent stuff, yes it is catchy, but also not really my style of music. But I do love her first album, the song Tug of War was my favourite back when it came out. I was pretty excited that she came in, I haven’t seen many big celebrities recently. It was sort of a weird event though. It was held in the VIP and they had about three people that won a contest and then each of them got to bring around ten or so of their friends, and they got to see a movie with her…and the movie they watched was Life of Pi. Now, I’m sure that is a great movie, I have no doubt seeing the crowds that are still piling in to see it. But if I were watching a movie with a celebrity I don’t know if that would be it. Either way, it was a cool gesture. And it would have been a pretty exciting event for those lucky winners…if CRJ had shown up on time. But no, as all celebrities do, as though it’s some rule they have to follow to be in the celebrity crowd, she was half an hour late. And she came in with about four big burly security guards.

Now I’m no expert when it comes to celebrities, but isn’t that a bit excessive? I mean for one she’s Canadian. For two, she’s a singer with two hit songs…is she really in that much danger at a movie theatre? I mean, Steven Tyler wandered in off the street like it was nobody’s business last week (no, I wasn’t working :(…) and didn’t have any sort of protection. And then after the film wandered down Yonge street to-and I’m only guessing here-attend and perform at his own concert that night at the Air Canada Centre…I suppose that’s one of the things with some celebrities. If you really want to be popular you have to make yourself seem more important.

Either way if they are famous I will usually get all excited just so I can tell my friends that I saw them in person. Even though I would like to think that I am all cool and collected around famous people. I’m totally not. But there’s just a certain atmosphere some celebrities bring around with them that changes the way you react around them.

And I guess that my realization for the day is that there’s a big difference between celebrities, some of them just want to hear their music played on the radio, and others just want to play their music.

That’s just my opinion though.

PHOTO #81: More DIY

You get a glimpse of my super unphotogenic-ness in this photo. Yea, my creepy hand in there. Whatever. I know it’s weird. I can’t stop it from happening so get used to it. I did…sort of…

This is the outfit I wore. You may or may not recognize this skirt from one of my older posts. It’s the Mendocino skirt that was $10.00. But, last time it appeared on this blog it was a shin-length skirt. I decided that was not the length for me. I had only worn it twice in around five months. And so I cut it. I’ve already worn it twice now that it’s shorter. I love the length now. And I cut it so that the Tulle is longer than the underskirt so you can see the different lengths of it. If I could have taken a better angle of it I would have…

That’s all I really have to say for today. I should do this with more of my clothing. There’s so much of it that I don’t wear for some reason or another. And the problem might be fixed with just a little DIY.

PHOTO #74: Black is the New Black

Just a quick one for today, mostly because I’m in a bad mood, because of work. But also because I’m tired, and have to get up early tomorrow.

So, my outfit mirrors what today was like. Boring, and dark, and monotonous. Same thing as the past couple of days. Money machine issues. Employee issues. What got me the most today was dishonesty, and double standards. Both of these things make me quite angry. And make my job harder to do. I don’t have a huge issue with smokers. I have never smoked myself, but that is just a personal choice. I have many friends who smoke and do not try to convince them to do otherwise. But, when employees are asking for special treatment because they need to take smoke-breaks, that’s where I draw the line. The guidelines for breaks where I work is one half-hour break mid shift. But, I have one employee who thinks they should be the only one that gets to take two breaks because of their habits. Why is this okay? If he gets to have special rules broken just for him why shouldn’t I allow the rest of the staff to do the same? They should just be able to disappear for ten minutes for absolutely no reason as well. Why should he be the only one allowed to do this? Anyways, I’m not going to get any further into it. I just don’t think it’s fair.

The reason I have to get up early tomorrow is that Amy, my sister, wants to go to Michael’s. It’s an awesome although expensive craft store. And since I have to work at five, and the store is far away, we have to leave the house quite early. I am so excited to go though. I think it will be just what I need to get a creative kick back into DIY-ing things. I have gotten out of the crafts again and really need to get back in. Hopefully tomorrow will fuel some inspiration.

PHOTO #72: I Made A Sweater

Unfortunately due to how late I had to stay at work I was unable to get this post out on the right day :(. Thus breaking my streak. Oh well. I probably won’t be able to make it again until monday-ish anyway, as I’m closing all weekend.

I am having a hard time typing right now because my hands are frozen. You know when that happens? You feel like your motor skills are slow and your hands don’t work properly? That’s happening to me right now. I was standing outside waiting for a streetcar for about a half an hour in the cold. Yea, night time TTC not so good.

Anyways, this is the sweater I made for the day! I was bored after midnight but didn’t feel like going to bed, so I made it. It’s not the best angle to see the whole thing, but you can see the most important parts. I did it two-toned, so the back panel is this sheer stretchy fabric with a tie-dyed pattern on it. The front is just a grey stretchy fabric. It was quick and easy because I wasn’t bothering myself to be perfect on it. I barely used a pattern either. It’s funny because my sister asked me to make her one, but I won’t be able to make it look exactly the same because I just sort of guessed on where to cut it, and winged it the whole way through. But, I could always do that again. It makes it more of a one-of-a-kind. Either way, it turned out way better than I was expecting, so that makes me happy.

PHOTO #61: Drafting Dresses

Here is an Instagram photo my sister took of me today while I was drafting her dress. Or I should say more like adjusting a draft I already had. She found a dress I had partially made, tried it on, and said that it was virtually what she wanted. So I have made the changes she wanted, and tomorrow I will be in the construction stages. And hopefully finished the dress by the end of the day. Hopefully.

Shhh…don’t tell my drafting teachers that I’m using an HB pencil and not a 0.5mm lead pencil like they adamantly tried to drill into my brain…

I don’t even know what got into me, but when I wrote yesterdays post I swear to you it was the 4th. Because I looked at my watch and it said 11:30pm, and it said 11-4. But, as it turns out I was hallucinating. I changed the title now so that it is correct although, you can still see remnants of my mess up if you happened across the image link URL.

I finally have a day off! It’s been…six whole days since I’ve had one off. This is my excuse for not knowing what day it is. They all blend together after a while. I definitely need sleep. So that is where I shall go. Goodnight.

PHOTO #60: New Projects!

This is a drawing I did for my sister, she wanted me to make a dress for her in a vibrant but not ‘orangy’ red colour. I doodled this one day, and she found it and said it was exactly what she wanted. Now months later, she still wants me to make the dress for a Christmas party she’s attending, but I’m sure she’s thought of some changes from this initial design. I thought I’d dig it out as a reference for her, and we are going to start on the specs tomorrow. I’m pretty excited. It’s been a while since I’ve put together a dress. And then, I’m nervous because…well it’s been a while since I’ve put together a dress. So we’ll see how it goes, I have high hopes for it. We’ve also already bought the fabric, so that’s out of the way! Picking the right fabric can be hard. Especially when you have a vision of what you want, it’s soul crushing when you have to settle for a fabric that does not suit what you need.

Hopefully this will put me in the mood to make something for myself as well. I have so much fabric, I should really use some of it. That will be my next goal, after this dress I’m going to make something for myself. A cute dress shirt maybe, or just a dress. I’ll decide on that later.

P.S. I am getting this post out before midnight! Woohoo for goals and reaching them…sometimes…I’ll keep trying.

PHOTO #56: Fall Outfit Number…I Don’t Remember

Here’s what I wore today. The jacket is new, I was so excited to finally wear it. It was a sale piece from Urban Outfitters. The moment I saw it I wanted it. The moment I put it on there was no way I was putting it down. It fit perfectly, and looked awesome on. Kinda preppy with a messy vibe, I guess. Other than the jacket you have seen everything else on me before. The necklace was not clear the last time I wore it, so now you can see it for real…sort of. It’s one of my pieces, made of clay.

I missed seeing a famous person at work…twice. Michael Keaton (Batman, Beetlejuice) came in yesterday, on my day off! And then again this morning. 😦 Oh well. Hopefully when we have Lincoln exclusively (yea, that’s right) some famous people that live in Toronto will come to see it.

I have barely done anymore of my Halloween costume…I was working on my sisters for her. Yea, so now I’ve done some for my brother AND my sister. I’m still pretty sure it will only take me a short time to do mine, so I’m not worried. My friend also gave me some fake eyelashes that are going to look great, they are so long it’s insane. Not sure I’ll be able to open my eyes with them on…Anyways I have to get up at a decent hour if I want to work on this thing. Consider this me going to bed early. Even though it’s 3am…

PHOTO #51: Work Work Work

Today was pretty boring. I thought I was meeting up with my sister to go fabric shopping for our costumes and I think she wants me to make her a dress or something. But, apparently I am still very tired and was getting my days mixed up. I really thought it was friday…Luckily my manager had already asked me if I could come in early. So, I didn’t go all the way downtown for nothing. While I was downtown I bought this QUO French Tip Nail Pen thing. I am getting lazier and lazier when it comes to doing my nails. And lately they look so bad, because my hair dye has also dyed my nails. So they are this dirty greenish tint. It’s gross. I figured I should try this. It’s supposed to make it easier. But, I have this feeling it’s not going to. Details on that tomorrow I guess.

My celebrity sighting of the day is Salman Rushdie and Deepa Metha. I read a Rushdie book in my grade nine english class, and I loved it. It was called Haroun and the Sea of Stories. I know that there is this whole thing with him and the Middle East, but I’m not really sure of the details. I just know he has written some pretty controversial stuff. Now, I didn’t necessarily see him…but he was in the vicinity of the theatre. He and Deepa Metha did a Q & A before her film Midnight’s Children. So, that was the excitement for the day.

Other than that…I accidentally went into overtime again…not by much this time…maybe an hour and a half. Oops…It’s hard to keep track of my hours…plus, it’s not my fault they ask me to come in all the time. I just never refuse.

P.S. I suppose I should explain the photo…This is what I wore at work for the day. The sheer blouse with the Lace collar is from a store called Penney’s. You can find it in the UK. Specifically, I got mine from Ireland. The sweater is an old thing from Reitman’s or something.
